Bowen turned 10! It was the double digit birthday. Forever more he will always have two numbers associated with his age, that is how grown up he is! Mom cannot believe it! I love you, Bowen Eric Thomas!

Called to Serve

Sister Courtney Michelle Thomas has been called to serve in the Chicago, Illinois, Spanish speaking mission! She enters the MTC (Missionary Training Center) on September 21, 2011. Sister Thomas will be an outstanding missionary!

Whew...the mission papers have been officially submitted to Church headquarters. The papers took longer than expected and there were a few technical difficulties as well, the completed forms sat in the computer system for an extra unexpected week or two. But finally all has been troubleshooted and the papers have been sent! Courtney will be an extraordinary missionary and her smile will touch many lives and melt many hearts! She was told by her ecclesiastical leader, her bishop, that some of the disappointments and heartaches in her life have been missionary preparation and will only do her good as she spreads the gospel. Ready or not...here she comes!

Prom 2011 was the best prom ever for Caitlin. She picked out the prettiest ever dress and according to Caitlin, she had the best ever date! Some of Caitlin's best friends were in her prom group and they all had the best time. That's the way you want your senior prom to be, THE BEST!

Even Bowen enjoyed prom this year...he took advantage of the opportunity to make a little extra cash by shining shoes!

Seminary Graduation! I'm so proud! Caitlin sang beautifully at the graduation! She sang a duet version of "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" with Jacquel Cunico. The musical number was perfection and really spread the sweet feelings of the Spirit to all those in attendance.

The Birthday Celebration

Turning 18 apparently means an entire month of celebration. Caitlin's friends threw her a surprise birthday bash earlier this month. She shared a birthday song at home with her father and enjoyed her very own birthday cheesecake, at her request. Her uncles and father dropped by her school to surprise her with flowers and of course, PINK cupcakes the day before her actual birthday. She was kidnapped for a breakfast feast by more friends at 5:30 AM the morning of her birthday. She opened many presents from family and friends. Her car was decorated, flowers delivered to our home, and a dinner with her family that night! I guess it was a great day, week, or month to turn 18!

Happy Birthday to my Shinky Pink Caitlin! I cannot believe that you are 18 years old. You are my own little bundle of shiny, pink joy and a blessing in my life. When you were but two years old, I asked you what you wanted to be for Halloween, your response was, "shiny, pink!" That is still you today, 18 and shining your pink joy for everyone to see! I love you!

One of my favorite movie quotes comes from the movie, "Good Will Hunting." In the movie there is a scene where Dr. Sean Maguire, played by Robin Williams is telling Will Hunting, played by Matt Damon about his deceased wife. He says that "she was the pefect wife, not a perfect person, just perfect for him."

Last Friday was Eric's birthday. He turned 44. The celebration was not too eventful, just a good day spent with family and friends and eating yummy food. I made his favorite strawberry pie and he opened a few gifts. All day long I could not help thinking how perfect he was! He is the perfect husband, not "perfect" by a long shot, but perfect for me!

Celebrated Rite of Spring

Being a female and not having a recollection of my brothers participating in a pinewood derby, this event is strange to me. Dads with their competitive natures in force and boys laughing and loving every minute of it. I can't decide what is more fun for the boys, the making of the car or racing it. Since I don't have a great understanding of this strange tradition, here is what I know...

The pinewood derby is a racing event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. Cub Scouts, with the help of parents (DADS), build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles.

The Scout is given a block of wood made of pine with two notches for wheels, four plastic wheels and four nails. The finished car must use all nine pieces, must not exceed a certain weight (usually five ounces), must not exceed a certain length and must fit on the track used by that particular scout pack. The idea behind the pinewood derby is for the parent, usually the dad, to spend time helping the child design, carve, paint, add weights, and tune the final car. However, it is often the case that the parent takes over the construction of the car! Once the car is completed the racing begins. During the event racing, dads exhibit crazy, fierce, and competitive behaviors. Their STRONG desire to succeed and/or win really shows! However, it still makes for great family fun and memories. The pinewood derby was selected as part of "America's 100 Best" in 2006 as "a celebrated rite of spring" by Reader's Digest. Here's to the arrival of spring!

What? Not 1st place, but the "Shiniest Car" award! I won all of my races, unfortunately, my "times" weren't as fast as the three top cars (Meanwhile, Eric is diligently checking the computer that has the race times logged, "how can this be, our car is the fastest, I, I mean we, worked on it forever!"). AAAAAAH, just wait til next year!

Wow...it's March already! Where did February go?! 2011 is already flying by and things at the Thomas household just continue to be total chaos and fun. The kids are all growing up and there are many changes for the 2011 year. Caitlin is preparing to graduate from high school and is still trying to decide which college she wants to attend and make her future life plans. She has been awarded some scholarship offers and has had a few disappointments as well. She wants to pursue a degree in Journalism and she is considering a minor in Dance. She is not quite ready to give up dancing and performing, it is her passion. Courtney will be done at Snow College in April and has decided that Utah State University is her school of choice to finish her Special Education degree. Hannah just finished another school musical, "Beauty and the Beast." She snagged herself one of the leading roles and really, really, really stole the show as LeFou, Gaston's quirky sidekick. She was amazing and she really sang her heart out every time she was on the stage. Junior high is still full of good times and difficulties. Girls can be simply, "mean." She struggles with her self confidence and really needs a loyal friend that can help her be her best self. She has 9th grade cheer tryouts and Willowcreek Middle School dance company tryouts this month. I hope she can make both the cheer squad and the dance company. She is working hard to be able to do so. Bowen is his usual precocious self and has discovered a love for reading. I finally convinced him to read the Harry Potter books. He has decided that reading is awesome and that these books are even better than the movies. Eric continues to work hard. He seems tired both physically and emotionally from the trials at hand. He has really worked hard as an operations manager and has thrown in his hat for the manager of his branch. He is being considered, but he feels that they will hire a man from outside of the company who has made promises of grandeur by bringing in 2 million in revenue his first year. Eric is committed to hard work and to keep that branch running smoothly, efficiently, and productively. He would be a great branch manager! I would most definitely hire him! The family budget continues to be our struggle. Never enough, however, we seem to be blessed somehow whenever there is a need. I am grateful that my children are healthy, talented, strong, good and valiant. They continue to work hard at making the right choices. I know their efforts and good works will be blessed. I have also decided that vanilla flavored, Tootsie Rolls are simply, wonderful!

Thomas family is sitting in church and enjoying the testimonies being shared during Sacrament meeting. Suddenly, Bowen stands up and walks to the podium very courageously. He confidently shares his testimony to all in attendance. Wow and without any prodding from his mother, that was a surprise. He marches back to the pew and says to his overjoyed mother, "I did it." "Yes you did!" Mom was a little tearful. You know how mothers are when they feel a tender mercy from our Lord and when they experience a moment of sweetness from their boys.

A few minutes later Bowen whispers in his mother's ear, "I prayed and I promised to share my testimony today if Heavenly Father will let the Steelers WIN the Superbowl." Mother's response...."uuuuum," pretty much speechless.

Nonetheless, the Steelers did not win the Superbowl that day and Bowen and his mother learned alot about answers to prayers, faith, football, testimonies, our Father in Heaven and sweet moments.

Dear World,
It's Monday, snowing, cold and blustery! My shoulder still hurts and my arm feels like it is on fire. I dislike doctors who tell me that I have a "bulged disc" in my neck and that is why I have pain. I am a bit grouchy. My desk is piled high with work that needs to be done and my "in box" is totally full. My "out box" is not very full, however! My house needs to be cleaned, most especially the bathrooms and there is an endless pile of dirty laundry. It's a good thing that this is the last day of January!

I will stop complaining now...typing hurts too much to go on!

New Year....Best Ever

It's 2011, a new year! I want to make it a "best ever year!" 2010 passed quickly with lots of learning experiences, trials, blessings, good things and some not so good. So, I've decided that with 2011 already here, I'm determined to make it a "best ever year." I want this year to bring more learning experiences and more blessings for my family. I want lots and lots of good things, prosperity and gain for my very hard-working hubby; a beautiful place we can call home (yes, we will have to move sometime this year, the current home, is just tooooooo much for the family budget to handle); wise life choices made by Courtney with lots of happiness and wisdom; opportunity to knock for Caitlin with a little recognition that she has worked hard to earn; friends, laughter, and goal achievement for Hannah; growth, fun, learning and security for Bowen. I have resolved to work my hardest and be my best to allow for the lots and lots of good things in 2011.

The tree is trimmed, the lights are lit, a few presents are wrapped and the stockings are hung. Courtney survived another semester at college and is home for the holidays. Hannah sang beautifully at her Christmas choir concert and Bowen knew the entire song at his 3rd grade Christmas "sing-a-long." Caitlin was outstanding in the high school dance company's, "The Grinch." She sang, she danced, she smiled and lit up the stage. She was the best ever, Cindy Lou Who. The whole production was "WHO-MAZING."

We attended the Mormon Tablernacle's Christmas Concert with David Archuletta, it was well worth the mass of people, the long line, and the waiting. The concert was beautiful and it left us breathless and full of the Christmas spirit! The lights at temple square were beautiful as ever and you could feel Christmas in the air.

Thanksgiving has come and gone. Life is so chaotic and I have not taken the time to express what I am thankful for at this time in my life. Today I am thankful for the chaos, I think it is what keeps me sane. There are trials all around me and the chaos is a great distraction, a way to feel connected and needed. So, at least at the present time, chaos is a blessing and chaos is good.

I am also thankful for my four beautiful, healthy, clear minded, determined, strong willed, talented, silly, intelligent, faithful, and valiant children! They are my most precious gifts and I love them more each and every day. I cherish every minute I have with them and I love being a part of their lives!

Thankfulness is my children and the chaos that surrounds my life!

October has already passed and now it's November! This year is passing by faster than a speeding train. I thought I would summarize October with pictures! Happy Autumn!

It's official, I am truly middle aged and old! I had another birthday!

My future NFL All Star had another great game on Saturday. He scored a TD, the extra point and he made two tackles!

They did it! Caitlin and the LHS Dance Company---FIRST place!

Congratulations! Hannah and the Willowcreek Middle School Shakespeare team took home THIRD place! Hannah was outstanding in her Merry Wives of Windsor Scene!

Great weekend...Caitlin & LHS Dance Company took FIRST place for their dance ensemble and showcased at the Shakespeare Festival...Hannah and Willowcreek Drama took THIRD place for their drama ensemble and showcased at the Shakespeare Festival...Courtney got 80% on her MATH test...Bowen scored a TD, the extra point and made two tackles at his football game! Holla!

P.S. Courtney comes home Wednesday night...it's fall break, so we get her for the long weekend! More good times ahead...I love October weekends.

The Book of Mormon has the ability to change lives. Read it daily. You will learn and grow if you do. Your testimony will become stronger and you will be empowered with its message. The primary purpose of the Book of Mormon is to convince all people that Jesus is the Christ. The Book of Mormon teaches that all people "must come unto him, or they cannot be saved," 1 Nephi 13:40. Joseph Smith said that the Book of Mormon is "the keystone of our religion, and a man will get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” I know this to be true. I am going to make a genuine effort to read it everyday! I have good weeks when I am consistent. I have not so good weeks when I hardly pick it up at all. I want to become stronger and better, so I will read it everyday!

Lesson given by mom about goals and resolutions, how to make and accomplish goals and why they are important in our lives.

Mom: Now that we have discussed goals, I would like each of you to think of some goals you would like to make. We will write them down and then decide what you can do to accomplish those personal goals.

Courtney: I want to play soccer for the USA Women's Soccer Team. I want to score two goals during that game. I also want to be a teacher and help children learn and become better people.

She then continued on with a whole list of short range goals that would help her achieve those two long range goals. She was being so analytical and serious about the whole thing.

Hannah: I want to be a princess and a mom.

She was just under two years old and very excited about the "princess" goal.

Caitlin: I just want to be a Homecoming Queen and wear a pretty dress!

Oh, my little Caitlin! She was so much fun!

First Day of School 2010

I can't believe that the summer is over and school is in session. It seems as if this year, summer passed quickly and the school year really did creep up on us.

Courtney is moved and settled into her new apartment in Ephraim. Her schedule this semester at Snow College is a bit rigorous, but she is up to the challenge. She also has a new job. She will be working part-time at the Malt Shoppe. Good place to work and maybe she can score leftovers for dinner! She seems to have some good roommates this year and Julie, her cousin is one of them. They can take care of each other. Courtney is growing up fast and becoming quite the beautiful and intelligent young lady. I am proud of her and her accomplishments. She is really working hard and making wise decisions. She will be a great teacher in a few short years. She is a good example to her brother and sisters and her mom! I pray she has a happy and productive Sophomore year at Snow College. I miss her much but she is doing what she needs to be doing!

Caitlin is a senior, WOW! How did that happen? It seems like just yesterday she was riding the Barbie jeep down Cherokee Drive while dressed in her red tutu with her "ladybug" high tops. She is a joy and very driven. She is goal oriented and successful. She is my over achiever who works hard academically. I know the Lord has much in store for her. She has so much potential and is full of talent. She misses her big sister alot as she finds strength and confidence through her. I am grateful that they are so close. Caitlin is achieving greatness with her efforts in drill team and dance company. She has become a beautiful and strong dancer. She works harder than anyone I know and I pray she has a senior year in high school full of fun and memory building experiences. She always makes good choices and is a virtuous young woman. She is a good example to her peers.

Hannah is beginning 8th grade today. I remember being in the 8th grade. It was a good time and I made lasting friendships that school year. I hope it is the same kind of experience for Hannah. She is so full of goodness and compassion for others. She is a determined soul and strives to follow the examples of her older sisters. She is a leader and full of energy! I pray she has happiness, lots of friends, and many positive experiences this school year. She is loving her 8th grade cheer squad and the girls are all adorable and full of smiles. She is a good helper to her mom and very supportive to her family. She still tells me that she loves me, out loud, so others can hear her. Those words always make my day!

Bowen, my spirited and inquisitive 3rd grader. He too is quickly growing up and becoming a young man. Third grade was a rough school year for all three of my girls, I think Bowen will rise to the occasion without difficulty. He is such a social little guy. Everywhere we go, somebody knows him and will always smile and say, "Hi Bowen!" I hope he continues to achieve scholastically and learn and learn. He is so intelligent and loves learning new things. He appreciates the world and all it has to offer. He notices the little things and is always full of gratitude. He is really homesick for his oldest sister, so he uses my cell phone several times in the day to talk to her. I hope he has a great school year and he is able to learn and grow and smile and play. He has begun his first ever football season. He is full of bruises and practice wears him out. He is one tough little guy and he keeps on going. He is really learning how to play the game and is becoming a bit more disciplined and focused. I worry about his size, but what he lacks there he makes up for with effort and his big heart!

Work, laundry to be done, pack up Courtney, brownies to be made for drill teamers, first high school football games of the season..Go Vikings and Go Pioneers, drill team half time performance, clean the house, Hannah and Shakespeare scene practice, school shopping, grocery shopping, Bo's scrimmage, LION KING and Snow College or BUST...whew...it's gonna be a long weekend!

Courtney...moved in and apartment is cute, cute (my tears have dried and my composure has been regained)...Courtney is ready for her Sophomore year at Snow College...Caitlin danced beautifully at the football half-time performance...Hannah is practiced and her Shakespeare is outstanding...Bowen's team won the scrimmage, Go Pioneers...LION KING was just OUTSTANDING...my house isn't cleaned and the laundry still needs to be done (oh well, better luck next weekend)...kids are ready...for SCHOOL...It's a feel good Monday!

That Time Again.....

It's August and that means that football season begins. Eric is continuing to coach at Pleasant Grove High School and he has taken on an extra coaching responsibility of Bowen's team. This will be Bowen's first year of tackle football, that makes me a bit nervous! With football it also means that cheer season has officially begun for Hannah both with the 8th grade cheer squad and with her competitive team. It is also time for drill half-time performances for Caitlin. Her senior year as a Pionette! Whew...I may be watching someone play, coach, cheer or dance almost every night of the week! Happy footballing everyone!

I worry TOO much about things, especially things that I cannot change or things that cannot be fixed. I need to relax more and worry less, but sometimes I cannot help but worry. I worry alot regarding the happiness and welfare of my children. I worry about my hard working husband and my very supportive family. I think it is just my nature to be preoccupied with worry. I wonder if there is medicine to cure this worry, at least medicine that doesn't require a trip to a doctor or psychiatrist. That might get me into more trouble or maybe force me to relax if I am committed to a mental institution far away in the mountains. I need to worry less and hope more.

This day, week or month is not a fun loving chapter in the life of Jennifer Thomas. It also seems to be a very long chapter as well. You know the kind, the chapters of a book that have so many pages and so many words that you struggle getting through them because they are LONG and dreary. So, I am trying to focus on the good things and how much I have been blessed with. Trials are supposed to make us stronger, refine us and teach us patience. Here's to patience and HOPE. Hope is what carries us through the long chapters of life.

"The principle of hope extends into the eternities, but it also can sustain us through the everyday challenges of life. Summer brings the brightness of sunshine and it's warmth. It brings free time to just visit, relax or play. It also brings with it traditional barbecues, ice cream, and holiday festivities. We were fortunate to celebrate July 4th with sunshine, plenty of tasty food, sparklers, fireworks, FRIENDS and FAMILY. We also spent three days enjoying the celebration...hurrah for summer!

Saturday the 3rd we were able to enjoy the hot air balloon festival with our picnic breakfast, all at the very early hour of 6 AM! Hannah, however, did not get to participate as she had 6 AM dance practice for the Stadium of Fire. We spent the evening at the Stadium of Fire as was recorded previously. Sunday, the 4th, was spent "churching" and then we barbecued with our friends. The food was absolutely amazing, thanks Ed, and the kids loved lighting sparklers and fireworks. It was a great day. We continued celebrating into the Monday with family and a potluck dinner. The kids enjoyed shooting off bottle rockets and playing in the water.

A great weekend of family time and reflecting on how blessed we are to live in the USA! Summer brings bright opportunities along with the sun. I hope your 4th of July was amazing and may God bless America!

The Stadium of Fire turned out to be one great night! Hannah was beautiful as a Stadium of Fire dancer and she did outstanding. The sunset was picturesque and the concert with Carrie Underwood really rocked! The fireworks were breathtaking and it made for great family time. This might have to be a new family tradition!

Big Muscles...

My front porch Monday afternoon! This was after our evening of excitment and flooding!

Our family is getting "big muscles," according to Bowen! Sunday evening into early Monday morning was spent filling sandbags and then in a long line, of about 400 volunteers, placing them all over nearby neighborhoods. Many of our friends and neighbors' houses and yards have been suffering from the heavy snow in the mountains and cool temperatures through the spring. Cool temperatures that is, until this week. This week has been mighty hot and as a result, the run off from the mountains is great and quick and the water levels are high. Therefore, many yards and homes have been flooded. It was a great experience for us to serve our fellow friends and give back to them only a portion of what they have given to us. Bowen commented during the experience that we are getting big muscles! I hope our family muscles continue to get bigger and bigger!

Caitlin turned 17! It seems like just yesterday that it was April 27, 1993 and 3:00 PM at American Fork Hospital. This is when Caitlin made her appearance into the world. She weighed in at a mere 6 lbs. and 13 oz. and was 18 inches long. She didn't cry nor even whimper, she just smiled with her bright eyes, looked around and then cuddled up and went to sleep. All was well! What a joy she has been for 17 years. However, she hasn't spent much of it cuddled up, she has been our active, dancing, singing, playing, athletic, full of life, intellectual, loud, and pleasant one! Happy birthday Caitlin! The spring dance concert at Lehi High School was a success! The theme was "Movies in Motion." I really enjoyed it. The program is very well run and there is alot of talent on the Dance Company. Of course, Caitlin, was the very best one! She lit up the stage with her energy and enthusiasm. She shines! She is a natural performer and is really fun to watch. She makes it look effortless, however, I really know the amount of work and the hours she puts into her dancing.

April is flying by and there is so much still left to do. Courtney only has a few weeks of class left and then finals. She will be home before I know it! Hurray! Then there is Eric's birthday to celebrate, Caitlin's 17th birthday, the drill team year end banquet and my 21st wedding anniversary! Wow, that's along time...congrats to Eric and me!

Hannah is still in California for her cheer team's nationals competition. She returns home tonight. I really miss her...I mean I REALLY MISS HER! I'm definitely not ready for her to grow up and abandon me yet! She was a little nervous at the airport, but her coaches and team mates immediately found her and she was swept up in their energy, excitment and smiles, so all was well. I think she has had a great weekend enjoying the sun, the competition and the girls!

Hannah's spring musical turned out amazing! "Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" was a success. The director, Ms. Jennings, did an outstanding job with the junior high aged students. She really knew how to pull out the best from the kids, even the junior high aged boys! Lots of talent and lots of fun. Hannah loved, loved, loved participating and she really shined on the stage! I think she has found a passion and she found some talents as well. She danced and sang beautifully and really had a great stage presence, not afraid at all! She was comfortable up there performing for us all...hmmmm, wonder where she gets that ability!?! The costumes were also stunning and I was impressed. Good job students of Willowcreek Middle School!

My little "Hannah Banana" is all growed up and 13 years old. She is a teenager, curse word to my ears (that whole teenager thing)! What a great birthday she had. On her birthday she woke up to some presents, which she quickly tore into. I took her shopping and then she was treated to lunch with her family and Grandma Colleen! She picked "The Brick Oven" as her preferred place to dine and celebrate. Then she spent the night peforming for her family at her school play, "Joseph." Her siblings, her grandmother, her friends, her aunt, her cousins and her uncle were also in attendance to cheer her on in her lovely and "Tony" worthy performance. She blew out the candles on her cake afterwards and we all sang, beautifully, I might add to her! It was a great day for a great young lady!

She is growing up all too fast and growing up beautiful and sweet. She is fun and energetic. She has a great sense-of-humor flavored with a little sarcasm. She is strong and responsible. She is smart and determined. She is a natural leader with a compassionate nature. She is LOUD and likes to laugh. She is a talker and always has fun stories to tell. She is a our cheerleader! I am proud of her and the wise choices she continues to make. She has so many talents and continually discovers more!

March Madness...

It has been total madness at our home during the month of March. So far we have experienced Hannah and her cheer team placing second at Nationals. It was held this year in Utah, at the Salt Palace Convention Center. We didn't have to go by plane or experience 18 hours in a vehicle to get there. Hurrah for us! Her team did outstanding and placed second. Second best team in the nation (I think they should have placed first, but I'm just the mom)! Way to go Mac's Jr. Blue!

We have had Courtney home for spring break. It is always nice to spend time with her, she is beautiful and fun and brings laughter into our home. Bowen just adores her and is her little shadow. Her sisters look up to her and she is setting a great example for them. I'm always glad when Courtney comes home!

Caitlin has survived drill team tryouts, AGAIN. This was her last year to experience the stress, aching muscles and anxiousness of it all. She will be a senior next year. She was awarded an officer position and will be an excellent leader for all the girls on drill team and for her peers at school. I am proud of her. Caitlin was also invited to the prom at Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs. The invitation came only four days prior to prom, so she had to wear the dress she wore to prom at Lehi High School last year. Her friend Brooklyn was also invited and they were in the same group so that worked out nice. Brooklyn also received the same four days notice, so she wore Courtney's old prom dress. She looked pretty in the dress. Caitlin and Brooklyn got ready at our house and had a great time. At the prom, Caitlin was able to catch up with some old friends, who now attend high school at Westlake. So that was an added bonus. She had a great date and a great time, even with his blue hair.

Still to come this month is Hannah's 13th birthday, Bowen's first, spring season soccer game, opening night of "Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (Hannah's play), and eighth grade cheer tryouts. So looking forward to the stress, fun, excitment and thrills of it all!

In addition to our "March Madness," BYU's madness is over as they lost in the second round of the playoffs and will not be in the final championship game. It's okay Cougars, there is always 2011!

Caitlin endured with lots of safety pins and a smile. Her date asked, "are you going to cry?" Caitlin responded, "no, but maybe my mom will!" Good times, good times!

The three sisters in my home are the greatest! I love that they love each other dearly and are the best of friends. I love that one can cut the hair off of another's Barbie doll and there is still friendship. I love that one can critique the other's clothing choice, but no one else can. I love that if one sister is frowning, the other sister will share her smile. I love that one can tell a secret to another and it remains such, even from mom. I love that one will sacrifice her last dollar, so the other can have two. I love that their love is unconditional and forever. Although, I think they will never quite forgive each other for what happened when they were five or six. Sisterhood is a blessing and I love all the sisters in my life!

Yes...we love the little man of the house, Bowen! He is so much fun and really keeps his big sisters on their toes. He was our late arriver but completes our little family. He brings so much light and love into our home. It melts my heart when he smiles. He is pure joy and loved by his entire family. He really is "all boy" with a special mission. Infact, he is loved so much that he only got in a little bit of trouble after the last parent/teacher conference.

Ms. Sanders: Bowen is so smart, he is above the class level in reading and writing. He is doing third grade math in second grade and loves numbers. He has so much potential. We just need to work on the "getting out of his seat in the middle of class time and walking around the room and visiting with other students, thing." He also needs to work on raising his hand and not interrupting the teacher. He needs to quit being bossy and ruling the entire second grade, not just our class, but the entire second grade. He really needs work on his listening skills. However, I just adore him!

Mom: Um.....yes, yes, I know. We will continue to work on those things!

Apparently, this is going to be a lifelong process and we will have to continually work on those things.

I love my first born! Courtney Michelle Thomas, what a joy she is to our family. She is silly and always the life of the party. She is a good example to her younger sisters and brother and makes life fun. Her dad calls her "Cat in the Hat." This is because you know when she has been in a room, it is full of chaos, smiles, messes, and laughter. The vacant bedroom downstairs stays clean and tidy, the bed is made and there is nothing on the floor. When Courtney comes home from school for the weekend, don't look in that room, it is messy, clothes everywhere, floor covered with, I'm not sure what, and the bedding is everywhere! Sometimes I clean it when she leaves, sometimes I leave it messy because I miss her! What a talented and joyous young lady! Your family loves you!

We love Caitlin! She has always been a joyful and smiley girl! From the beginning, she was happy and sweet. She never cried as a baby unless she was SICK, STARVING, or wanted her mommy. She loves her big sister, is the best supporter of her little sister and adores her brother. She is a good example to her siblings and always gives 100% to anything she does. She has grown up to be beautiful, talented, intelligent, giggly, fun, dramatic, and high maintenance for her mother! She loves to perform and she is a strong, athletic and beautiful dancer. It's a Hannah blog day! Hannah and her cheer squad, Mac's All-Stars, Jr. Blue team have had two competitions thus far. They have also had two first place trophies to display at the gym after both competitions. Go Jr. Blue! Hannah is a joy and fun to be with. She works hard and loves performing with her cheer team. Competitions are the best and she never seems to be nervous, just excited. She is growing up so fast and has adjusted to life in junior high. She is beautiful and smart. Go Hannah! We love you!

Sunday evening at 9:00 PM

Courtney sends me a text..."Mom, I need ideas for my speech tomorrow in class." "I need to deliver a two minute introductory speech on me." "HELP!."

After many texts being sent back and forth and a long cell phone conversation, the help is delivered and she figures out she is brilliant and didn't really need my help. Aaaah, my work was done!

Monday morning at 7:00 AM

Bowen, unfortunately, cannot locate his "homework folder" or his gloves and I am supposed to be out the door in ten more minutes.

Quick tour of the house proves unsuccessful. Time for some serious investigation, cushions overturned, pillows thrown, closet disassembled, HA...success, one homework folder located, however, gloves are gone forever. Time to buy new ones (I really hate that).

Monday afternoon at 4:30 PM

Home from work, open front door, the pleadings begin..."Mom, I need...," "Mom, guess what...," "Mom, I'm hungry!" "Mom, look my driver's education certificate of completion, can we go, RIGHT NOW and get my license?" "Mom....."

Dinner baked and served, one load of laundry complete, homework finished, Family Home Evening...over, however, no driver's license obtained. Maybe tomorrow.

Tuesday morning at 6:59 AM

Text from Caitlin, it reads, "Mom can we make a headband for my drill team costume by tomorrow for the coach and the team to see (I volunteered, previously, without knowing I was going to get one day's notice from my daughter)?"

Text from Caitlin, "Mom, they loved the headbands, I need 17 more by Friday."

Text from Caitlin a little while later, "Mom, I have a question?"
Mom's response, in text lingo of course, "WHAT?"
Caitlin's sends another text, "Mom, who should I take to the Sweetheart dance next month?"

Mom, thinking to herself, why is she texting me, isn't she supposed to be in class?

Mom's response, in text lingo of course, "IDK (I'm pro at texting)?"

This texting continues for several more minutes until it is interrupted by Courtney's cell phone call, "Mom, thanks for your ideas on Sunday night, I got an A."

Mom's response with tears in her eyes, "I knew you could do it, Hurrah for you!"

Wednesday morning at 9:40 AM

Mom, still at work and have been at work since 7:30 AM, receives another text from Caitlin (whoever invented the cell phone, does not have kids, I'm certain), "Mom, can we get my license today?"

Mom's response, "No sorry, Hannah has an orthodontist appointment this afternoon, I have to go back to the store and buy more sparkly sequins to sew more headbands, Bowen has basketball practice, there is always laundry to be done and you all have to eat sometime tonight. Oh yeah, I have to hunt for fake logs and red cellophane, I have a 'fake fire' to build for the Stake Camp Kick-off meeting, which is tomorrow night!" "Maybe tomorrow!"

Caitlin sends another text..."Okay, I love you."

Courtney sends a text, "Mom, I need help for another speech due Friday about a current event that is unethical (at least she is looking ahead this time)."

Mom's response to Caitlin, "I love you too."

Mom's response to Courtney, "Okay, check KSL.Com and read the news story about the Kiddie Kandids bankruptcy issue."

Mom still at work, the office phone ringing and a noon deadline to meet, smiles because her heart is warm and filled with love.

Thursday Morning Blues

Wow...my Thursday thus far:

Wake up - 6:40 AM

Work - 7:30 AM

The late wake up time created a bit of a problem this morning!

--I love it when my face is all puffy and you can barely see my eyes. That is how I looked this morning at 6:40 AM. Even now, I remain with that "just got out of bed and puffy face." Love that!

--Bowen was sleeping soundly all snuggled up in his bed. It was a difficult task getting him to move, yet alone out of his bed this morning. I pretty much had to pry him away from the covers and hurl him onto the floor. Love that!

--No eggs in the fridge, no bread in the pantry, pretty much sugar coated cereal for breakfast this morning. The kids really do LOVE THAT! (Their school teachers can thank me later.)

--Hannah had absolutely nothing to wear in her closet this morning. Well, you can imagine the 7th grade drama. Love that too!

--My office printer is pretty much not willing to function properly this morning. I have two reports to print and a financial ledger too. Love that!

--Caitlin passed her "road test" for Driver's Ed. She wants to go to the Driver's License Division TODAY and get her license...hmmmmmm, insurance rates increasing ALOT! Love that!

Christmas Magic 2009

Christmas 2009 was filled with magic at the Thomas home. Our family witnessed many miracles and felt lots of warmth in our hearts. Part of the Christmas magic for me, is the tradition of gift giving.

As a mom, I love everything about Christmas: the lights, the carols, the tree, the treats, the time with family, time off from work, Santa Claus and the toys, my children, everything we do to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Oh, and I especially love GIVING gifts. Some years I start making my “give list” in January. I remember some of the special gifts I have given, the dress I earned and saved money for to give to my mom when she needed a new one and I was only in high school, the BB gun for Courtney, the mermaid dress for Caitlin, Hannah’s Samantha doll, Bowen’s snow boots and the annual tradition of a new watch for Eric. I am always so excited for the gifts to be opened and enjoyed and for the feelings of warmth I enjoy.

That magic lingers every year during the Christmas season. Celebrating the birth of Jesus is the best part of the entire year. Christmas and giving gifts is great. I try to be the best gift giver ever. I try to think of others and meet someone’s need. I try to emulate Christ’s example and give how He gave with love and sacrifice.

However, the art of gift giving was perfected this year by Courtney, Caitlin, Hannah, & Bowen. They spent alot of time pondering what special gifts they would give to one another. Each picked another's name and the gift giving began. Courtney, our poor college student thought of the best gift ever for Bowen. She searched and finally found her old BB gun from days gone by. She polished it up and bought some BB's and it was the best surprise ever. Bowen was thrilled with the gun and he talked about it for days. Caitlin, decided the best gift to give her older and freezing sister who was at Snow College would be to help her stay warm. She shopped and purchased the warmest thing ever, the leopard print "Snuggie" brought a smile to Courtney's face and she was caught using it frequently. Hannah wanted to get Caitlin something useful and something needed. She determined that a pair of foot "undeez" to be worn as Caitlin perfects her dance turns would meet that need. Caitlin was touched by the thoughtfulness behind this gift as turns have been difficult for Caitlin and dancing in her new "undeez" will help her feel the love as she improves her turning sequences. Bowen just wanted to get something that Hannah would LOVE more than any other gift. He concluded that a Justin Bieber CD would be joyful and triumphant. He was right, she squealed as she opened the gift and we hear Justin singing through her bedroom walls on a daily basis. I enjoyed watching all four of them as they put alot of thought and not so much money into the gifts they selected for one another. Gift giving is something I want to be good at it, it is something that should come from the heart and not the wallet. Gift giving should not be limited to Christmas, but be a daily thing. We should think of others and serve them always. When we see a need, we need to respond willingly. Yes, I felt the magic of Christmas this year. I hope you all had a very magical Christmas as well.

Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah, Rah...Go Cougars! The boys in BLUE did it! They beat the big rival in RED, the University of Utah, in their final game of the season! BYU enjoyed an OT victory of 26 to 20! It was a great game, a great time, great weather, great hot chocolate and even greater as we enjoyed most of the game from the sideline. Way to reach out and touch the football ourselves! It topped off a wonderful holiday weekend!

A great day to be baptized...sunshine, family, friends and food!

The two most "Handsome Men" ever!

Bowen's baptism came and went all too quickly. It was, however, a great day. We enjoyed the company of family and good friends. Bowen was so excited. You would have thought it was Christmas eve instead of the night before his baptism. He tossed and turned all night and had a stomach full of butterflies. He absolutely beamed and smiled all day long. He looked so handsome and was such a great helper to me. He made sure the snickerdoodles were well baked and put out on a nice serving tray (he mostly wanted to make sure they were within his reach). The sun shined and it was a picturesque fall day. There was a special Spirit during his baptism and confirmation. His father gave him a beautiful blessing and I felt of his goodness and strength. He is a choice spirit with much work to do. Not sure how we are going to get him there, I guess we will start with learning how to listen in second grade and work on improving that "thought to mouth" problem!

Homecoming 2009

Another Homecoming and another daughter to enjoy! Caitlin was invited to the Homecoming dance early this year! Her date invited her about 4 weeks prior to the dance (I think he wanted to make sure no one else asked her first)! She was excited and thrilled as this was her first Homecoming dance. The LHS drill team worked hard and performed an amazing half time routine. Wish I could say the same for the football team. The week's activities were fun and Caitlin's schedule was busy, there was a parade to march in, an assembly to dance in, a football game to perform at, and a dance to celebrate.

Caitlin is growing up quickly and turning into such a beautiful young lady. She is my hard working, overly stressed girl, but she is so much fun. I enjoy watching her perform, she is a real natural in front of an audience and loves to dance! She is a compassionate girl who loves everyone unconditionally! She is my sweetheart and was easy to shop with. She picked another blue and black dress (same colors as the prom dress), but it was a pretty one! She had a great time trying on dress after dress until she found the one she wanted. Of course, that decision came after many shopping trips, worry, pondering and consideration (I'm not sure anyone put that much thought into their choice for president in 2008). However, she made the right choice as she was beautiful and had a great time!

Her date was thoughtful as he picked her up for the dance with flowers in arms, some for her and some for the mom! His mother has coached him well. He looked nice and they matched so adorably well!

Eight is Great!

Bowen turned eight on September 7th. Having a birthday is the best! He was able to enjoy the big day with lots of cousins, cake, presents, food, and family! It was a great time, just ask him. He got the IPod Shuffle he has been wanting, video games (thanks grandma), clothes (boring), a football, and many other fun things. He also was the "star" student for the week at school. This made him feel very important and he got to share pictures and stories all about him! The party that included 7 little boys destroying my house was my favorite part and I think he liked all the attention he received for the whole week. The only thing better than having a birthday is being able to celebrate for an entire week!

Bowen is such a good boy! He has so much energy and a zest for life. He will keep me busy! He is a bright little guy with an inquisitive mind. He giggles and loves sports, especially football. He adores his Grandpa Thomas and loves to "hang out" with him. He is social and loves playing with friends and cousins. I can't believe my little guy is 8 years old! He is growing up quickly. He is fun!

The birthday girl!

Celebrating the big ONE NINE!

Wow...my little baby girl turned 19 on September 4th! I can't believe how quickly my little rag muffin grew into a beautiful young lady. It seems like just yesterday she was running around the house in her pink Power Rangers costume, throwing amazing karate kicks to battle the enemy or cutting the hair off of all her Barbie dolls or riding her "Batman" bike up and down the sidewalk or terrorizing Cherokee Drive. She has grown into a beautiful, talented, compassionate, full of life, glam, stylish, FUN, resourceful, talkative, loyal, in charge and loving young woman! Oh how I love her! She teaches me everyday! She is a great, big sister and her little sisters and brother adore her. She is the life of the party with a witty disposition. Spending a few days with her for her birthday was a treat. I am so proud of her and pray for her happiness daily. I know she will be successful and wonderful at life! I am grateful to have been blessed with her as my daughter, she is one of my best friends!

The First Day of School 2009

It was a grand first day of school for the Thomas children. Bowen loves his new teacher and so far, she seems to be handling the "Bowen" task. He has lots of new friends and loves Math and Science. Reading is apparently, "a waste of time" and Spelling is just plain old BORING! He is growing up fast and has eased into second grade without difficulty. He is fun, funny, full of life and smart!

Hannah has survived the shock of beginning junior high. It has been an uphill battle, however, she is winning so far. She has had many mishaps leading up to and on the first day, including the inability to open her locker. Then she broke her hand and finger and began the second day of 7th grade with a cast and pain. It was her right hand so that only added more pain and difficulty because now she cannot even attempt to open her locker, carrying her lunch tray is almost impossible (good thing she has had willing helpers), she even struggles when changing clothes before and after dance class. At least she has been noticed! I guess it is not the best way to get attention, but it has worked! She loves her English teacher, her dance class, her Science class and has lots of friends. She is as cute as can be and still sports a smile, even though 7th grade has been a bit traumatic!

Caitlin seems to be enjoying her junior year of high school. She is of course, very involved and active. She loves dance company and drill team. She is enjoying her seminary teacher and her Chemistry class. She loves to read and her Honors English teacher keeps her busy with books. She has a date to the Homecoming dance and a new and beautiful dress. She has a stylish hair cut and lots of cute friends! At the moment, life is good!

The college freshman has transitioned well and loves the independence that higher education and moving away from home has brought. She has met many new people and is enjoying her new adventure. She loves Snow College and is doing well in all her classes. She especially enjoys her "Intro to Education" class and loves volunteering at the nearby elementary school. She is already teaching small lessons weekly to the fourth graders and helping with the Special Needs class too. She seems to be getting along well with her roommates and she and Lexi seem to be quite content (Her mother, however, doesn't love the idea of her children growing up and leaving her behind. Hopefully, she will adjust soon!)! Go Badgers!

Wow....September already!! It is September 8 and already we have had two birthdays, my eldest turned 19 and my youngest turned 8! Happy Birthday COURTNEY & BOWEN! Yes, I said 8, I am old! Happy, happy birthday to my two blessings! I love, love, love you both! They are so much alike in many ways; Courtney and Bowen, but yet have their differences! I am so behind and have not yet checked all the items on my to-do list. Blogging and posting pictures is one of those unchecked items.

So, for now, life is good and family is a blessing and I have lost 10 lbs! What could be better!???

A Little Blue

Just a little blue today while thinking of my friend and her loss. Thoughts of her seem to flood my mind alot these days. I cannot comprehend such a loss or such a heart ache or such a weight on my shoulders to carry. I have experienced loss before. I have lost loved ones and friends whom I miss and think of alot. This has brought me to the ultimate thought of the Plan of Happiness, that is the plan outlined by a loving Father in Heaven, not the Plan of Misery or the Plan of Blueness, but of HAPPINESS.

Do you know anyone that has "lost" someone? I do.

Whether it be a baby, a spouse, a mom, a dad, a grandparent or a dear friend.

We all lose people to death, at some time in our lives. Death is a part of living.

Have you lost someone? I have.

Sometimes during the course of our lives, we lose "things." Things like health, or jobs, or security. Sometimes we lose mobility, or function. Or a relationship is lost when it comes to an end.

I guess a part of living is experiencing loss.

However, it is called the Plan of Happiness. So maybe I should smile and remember the great eternal plan. We are loved and a loving parent's desire is for their children to be happy. Our Father in Heaven wants the same, our happiness.

So, although a little blue, I will smile and feel happiness!

Sooooooo Behind....

I'm so behind on everything, including the whole blogging thing. I will update with new pictures and posts in the very near future. It's on my "to-do" list!

Just to give you a quick summary: We have survived the summer and a new school year has begun. Bowen has met his second grade teacher and we love her. Let's hope she is up to the "Bowen" task. Hannah survived her first day of junior high, it wasn't easy, she was unsuccessful at every attempt of opening her locker, but she came home smiling, nonetheless! Catilin has begun her junior year of high school and the jury is still out on how this year will be. We moved Courtney to Snow College and mom and dad and Caitlin are still able to talk about this with only a few tears. Courtney, however, seems to be adjusted and enjoying the independence of higher education, let's see, dinners with football players, rock band with returned missionaries and dances, dances, dances. Let's hope her homework is getting done.

A friend of mine lost her husband in a plane crash. She is now left with three small children to raise, ages 4, 2 and 3 months. She is so amazing, however, the loss is difficult. I am so impressed with her strength and her faith, she teaches me daily. I know she can do this! She will be happy again. I believe that you never stop loving the people you lose, but that you are able to keep living with their memories, remembering will bring you happiness!

Soccer season has begun. Eric and Caitlin are coaching Bowen's soccer team. This makes for very fun games. Bowen is quite a natural and very agressive. He is quick and seems to enjoy being in the middle of all the action.

Hannah broke her middle finger and right hand a few days ago. This is going to make 7th grade all the more difficult. She is even more frustrated and stressed, I did not know this was possible! She will not be tumbling or stunting during the entire football season and we are keeping our fingers crossed that a full recovery will be made prior to cheer competition season, only a few short months away.

The long 24th of July weekend was spent in Birdseye, the former home of my grandfather's cattle ranch. The cabin was nice and the kids all had a great time. Eric and Bowen were successful at fishing and the 4-wheeler added to the fun. Being in Birdseye for the weekend flooded my mind with memories of my grandpa Huck and I felt his presence as I walked the ground he loved. I was all warm and fuzzy and it was a very peaceful few days for me.

Eric enjoyed himself so much that he shared the fun with his family. His brother's family and his sister's family joined us. We most definitely have to make Birdseye a priority and spend more time at the cabin.

The weekend was great! I love weekends that are full of kid spending time, family togetherness, low amounts of stress, and homemade apple pie! Hello Monday...looking forward to the up and coming 3 Day Weekend!

Yes...it's true, I will admit that I loved, loved, loved it! Although, I really want to view the ending of all of this Harry Potter stuff...hurry up and end, this movie held me spellbound. I was in my kidadulthood while watching this movie. It was funny, suspenseful and entertaining and definitely sets us up for the showdown scheduled for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The kids and the balloons...what a great way to start the day!

So many to watch...it was exciting!

The balloon festival was a great and early way to begin the fourth of July festivities. The weekend was fun and filled with family, food, balloons, fireworks, sparklers, watermelon, and friends! Hannah even had a bonus of getting to swoon over the Jonas Brothers at the Stadium of Fire with Grandma. Grandma Colleen took Hannah, Zoey, Piercee, and Jocelyn to the Stadium of Fire. It turned out to be quite an eventful night (she parked in private parking and got MY car towed), but the girls had a blast!

I love the 4th of July, it is a great opportunity to remember the sacrifices that have been made, the lives that have been lost, the courage of our ancestors, all for the cause of the freedom we enjoy. What a blessed land we call home! Independence Day is also a time to build relationships, laugh with family and friends, and love each other!

Whew...June was a busy month! Caitlin, Hannah, Eric and I survived girl's camp. Our stake was able to enjoy a week of camp at the Heber Valley Girl's Camp. This property is owned and has been developed by the LDS church. Over 8,000 acres of pure beauty, in the mountains southeast of Heber, Utah. There is a picturesque lake that includes paddle boats and canoes. There are sand volleyball pits, hiking trails, CABINS, bathrooms with hot water and showers. There are covered pavilions, refrigerators, stoves and sinks for washing dishes. We slept in bunk beds and had a bit of heat to keep us warm at night, we even packed a microwave for popping corn! This is the way I like to do girl's camp, full of amenities. The challenge course was challenging but many girls were successful and felt confident after conquering their fears. We built relationships, character, testimonies, friendships, and self esteem together. I think it was a great year at camp.

After camp there were barbecues, family parties, Lehi Round Up Days, parades, drill team camp, cheer practice, baseball, work, boyfriends, movies and fun to keep us busy. Eric's garden has begun to show signs of life, the rain stopped for a minute so the lawn had to be mowed. Oh, the joy of yardwork, it gives Eric peace. We are all a bit worn out but looking forward to July, love fireworks, family get togethers, barbecues, fire pits, and good times!

Wow...Ashley Tisdale!

Hannah attended the CD promo party of Ashley Tisdale in South Jordan yesterday! Ashley Tisdale was there in person to sign autographs and meet her fans. This was in honor of the release of her new CD. Hannah and her friend, McCall, both got autographs and snapped a picture of Ashley. They had a great time, although the waiting for 2 hours in line to meet her may not have been worth it!

Auntie Inez and Jocelyn took Hannah and pal to South Jordan for the big event. Thanks to a fun aunt and cousin, it made for a great afternoon!

The Best Dad Ever!

Happy Father's Day to the BEST DAD EVER! The father of my children is the best! He loves his daughters and his son. He is patient, even when my patience is non-existent. The dad at our home is prayerful, he prays with his children, he prays for his children and he gives them blessings. He offers a father's blessing, a beautiful gift of which I never had the opportunity of receiving, but I am so grateful that my children receive this priceless gift from their father.

The dad at our home is silly and fun. He jokes with his children, he plays jokes on his children, and he maintains a sense-of-humor when the practical joke is for him. He helps his daughters practice soccer and softball. He even makes a great gymnastics coach. He cheers with a smile at all dance, cheer and drill team performances. He endures squeaky violins and misplayed piano pieces. He teaches the value of good music and shares his love of opera with his family. He yells at his children when they make a mistake on the field or the court, but lovingly reassures them they will do better next time. All four children know how to throw a football, with precision and finesse I might add.

The father at our home makes a great friend. He cooks a mean breakfast and will even clean up his mess. He takes his daughters on ice cream dates and will wake them up at 4 AM to have a sundae and just talk. He makes sure they are happy, even when things are difficult. He has helped his daughters gain self-esteem and to understand who they really are. He is tough and puts a little fear in all teenaged boys who call upon his daughters. He is a protector and assures all young men dating his daughters that "he will do to them, what they do to his daughters." He plays catch with Bowen and continually fixes his bike, because Bowen continually causes damage to such bike. He wrestles with Bowen and takes Bowen for rides in his truck. The dad at our home works hard and has taught his children the value of hard work. He makes everything fun and tells the best stories of his childhood. His children know where they came from and the importance of living up to their potential.

The dad at our home teaches many things to his children, he teaches them the great art of belching, and how to pass gas and shift the blame. He teaches them to laugh and all about Pink Panther movies.

He teaches his children by example, how to walk uprightly before the Lord. He honors his Priesthood and serves the Lord, his family, and anyone in need without hesitation. Thanks for being the BEST DAD EVER!

With all the graduation hoopla....I forgot to post news of Miss Hannah and her grand award. Hannah was honored with the "LEHI LION...OUTSTANDING FEMALE 6TH GRADE STUDENT AWARD!" This award was given to her at Lehi Elementary's honors assembly the last week of school. She was so excited to receive such an honor. Her mother already knows that she is OUTSTANDING and apparently so does her teacher and Lehi Elementary School. This honor is awarded to one female and one male student who exemplify good citizenship, hard work in the classroom, good grades, top academic student, service to others, friendliness, and politeness. That is my Hannah! What an outstanding girl! Her mother is proud of all of her accomplishments. She will knock 'em dead at junior high in the fall (her mother is not quite ready for her to begin junior high, however, she will rock)!

What a great girl! As a proud parent I want to share with you the article from the Salt Lake Tribune about Courtney and her love she has shared with the special needs youth in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. This is one of the many reasons that she is so special. She makes a difference at home and at work, at school, at church, within her community, on the soccer field and in the lives of all of those who love and adore her! She is going to be a great success and change lives! I am changed because of her and am grateful that she is my daughter.

Courtney also received great news last week, she has received the TH Bell Teaching Scholarship. This will fund four years of full college tuition. Congrats to her and to my checkbook! She is going to be an awesome "Special Education" teacher.

Reach for the stars Courtney...have NO limits! Your family loves you!

Go out there and live life to its fullest, laugh lots, learn all you can, love with all of your heart, and remember that your family LOVES YOU!

P.S. Can I just add that she did an outstanding job on her talk at Seminary Graduation. She was the first speaker and totally captivated the audience and invited the Spirit with her words, her thoughts and enthusiasm. She spoke on making a difference by being a believer and used the scripture from 1 Timothy 4:12. She applied the scripture to life after graduation and her seminary experience. She was very articulate and bold. She said she was nervous, but you would never have known. She brought tears to her mother's eyes and made her family proud. What a great example to her siblings! Grandpa and Grandma Thomas were also very touched and feel she is so special.

Seriously, this is the most chaotic week! There really is no time to blog or update, however, I do have to create a "to-do" list so I will just share it....

Tuesday

1. Sick stomach, lots of nausea, finally vomit...have to go to work, so much to do!
2. Work, after taking lots and lots of medicine to stop vomiting.
3. Take Hannah's forgotten "End of School Year Water Party" clothes to the school.
4. Track down the whereabouts of two teenage daughters who had an early out day from school.
5. Laundry, two loads.
6. Hannah - piano lessons.
7. Take Bowen to karate.
8. Cook dinner.
9. Buy graduation dinner supplies, i.e. napkins, plates, cups, forks, tablecloths, etc.
10.Print final copies of the Seminary Recognition program.
11.Order cake for graduation dinner.
12.Write cards to Courtney's friends who are graduating.
13.Caitin needs a ride to and a ride from work.

Wednesday
1. Work
2. Awards Assembly at school for Hannah.
3. Take Seminary Recognition program to printer to have 600 color copies made.
4. Pick up 100 dozen cookies and lemonade for Seminary graduation.
5. Find out what 16 year old is doing.
6. Courtney needs a ride to graduation practice at the Marriot Center at 4 PM.
7. Cook dinner.
8. Get everyone cleaned and dressed in nice clothes for seminary graduation.
9. Be at stake center early to help set up for seminary graduation.
10.Seminary graduation at 7 PM. Courtney is speaking, enjoy her talk and be the proud mother of a beautiful seminary graduate.
11.Clean up after seminary graduation program is complete.
12.Make an honest attempt to have Bowen and Hannah in bed before 10:30 PM.

Thursday

1. Work
2. Dance Festival for Bowen and Hannah.
3. Check Bowen and Hannah out of school after Dance Festival. Cheer loud for wonderful and talented first and sixth grader after performances.
4. Get Bowen and Hannah a treat and take them home.
5. Pretend you are concerned about the whereabouts of Caitlin.
6. Courtney needs the car to drive her friends to Seven Peaks for Senior Sluff Day.
7. Throw another load of laundry into the washer.
8. Back to work.
9. Look through yearbooks with much excitment. Find beautiful daughters in the yearbooks.
10.Cook dinner.
11.Clean house, people are coming to dinner tomorrow, must have clean bathrooms.
12.Caitlin needs transportation to and from work, again!
13.Get tables and chairs ready for tomorrow's dinner. Wrap graduation gift for daughter.
14.Please do two loads of laundry, otherwise there will be consequences.
15.Write "thank you" notes to teachers, especially Ms. Lish. She survived first grade with Bowen.
16.Try to sleep...feeling old because I have daughter graduating the next day and full of butterflies, a bit nervous about daughter's future and excited for her too!

Friday

1. Try to roll out of bed, not much sleep.
2. Work
3. Pick up Bowen and Hannah from school at 10:30!
4. Cheer, school's out for the summer....hurray!
5. Pick up Caitlin and take her home to help with graduation preparation.
6. Clean house...guests arriving soon.
7. Give Courtney graduation present.
8. Make food for graduation dinner.
9. Set up tables, canopy, chairs, hang poster, get balloons for graduation dinner, I love parties!
10.Pick up cake.
11.Pick up self.
12.Get family dressed again in nice and clean clothes (I hope I finished laundry, hence the consequences). Take lots of pictures of beautiful daughter and beautiful family in nice and clean clothes.
13.Hug mother, she is arriving from St. George for graduation.
14.Drive to Marriott Center.
15.Pick up leis at Marriott Center for Courtney and friends. Hug Courtney and her friends and give them their leis to wear for commencement.
16.Watch commencement and cry, cry, cry.
17.Speed home, guests are arriving, must have food out!
18.Eat, enjoy guests, watch daughter, so proud of her, cry some more.
19.Clean up dinner, bid farewell to family and friends.
20.Restrain 16 year old daughter from all activity, she has to babysit siblings.
21.Chaperone Senior "All Night Party" for a two hour shift.
22.Finally go to bed..try to sleep because next week is girl's camp!

Motherhood

The four blessings that call me MOM!

I am sending a Happy Mother's Day wish to all the mothers I know. I love you all and appreciate so much what you do everyday to shape, love, nurture and "mother" the children in your lives. Children are so precious and gifts from the heavens. Gratitude fills my heart during the Mother's Day holiday. Mothers are unselfish and kind-hearted. Some years, guilt has plagued me at this time of the year, mainly because I feel that I sometimes lack the skills of the typical "Mother of the Year." But this year my heart is full, full of the love I have for the four precious and beautiful children I have been blessed with. Full of gratitude for the stewardship of mother I have been blessed with and for the mothers that have blessed my life.

Here is what I know in my heart about mothers and motherhood:

There is NO one perfect way to be a good mother. Each situation is unique. Each mother has her own set of challenges, skills and abilities. Some mothers have a great sense of humor, some mothers are patient (a quality I have not yet obtained), some are silly, some are serious, some mothers organize and manage, while others live in a state of constant chaos. But, whomever the mother and whatever her talent, the important thing is that a mother loves her children deeply and prioritizes them along with her love for her husband and for her God above all else.

One of the most important things a mother can do is "live in the moment." At times I am in such a hurry to finish dinner, clean it up, finish homework, get everyone bathed and get on to the next thing that the moment is gone. Treasure the "doing" a little more and the "getting it done" a little less. Cherish each moment because they pass by so quickly.

A sense of humor is important for motherhood survival. I know this because there have been many times I have been puked on, the just cleaned windows have been kissed and touched, a portion of the brand new lawn has been dug up to make a mote for the princess castle, and the washer needed to be repaired AGAIN because of the pebbles jamming the motor. A lawn's beauty may only be temporary but a mother's humor and happiness last forever!

Love your children. Don't be afraid to express your love. Reach for your children, touch them, hold them, hug them and adorn them with kisses. Say the words, "I love you," and show them with your actions. Don't just rock your babies, but rock your twelve year olds too. Children need to feel loved and know that a mother's love is unconditional. So kiss your children even if they have peanut butter stained mouths. Hug them even when they are sticky and tell the teenagers you love them before they leave the house.

I have also learned about being a mom from my four children. This is what I have learned from them:

Courtney has taught me to play. She is great at playing. It is good to stop being all serious and play for a minute. She is creative, silly, and fun. She makes everyone around her feel loved and accepted because she takes the time to play with them. No one is ever excluded from Courtney's play time. She enjoys life because she knows how to live it. I need to be more like her and take the time to play.

Caitlin has taught me to be the best I can be. She works hard at everything she does and always achieves greatness. She is beautiful, intelligent, fun, and sweet. Everyone loves her. She knows no limits and always reaches for the stars. She is the best and will help everyone around her be their best. I need to remember that I can be great, just like Caitlin.

Hannah has taught me to appreciate the beauty that is around me. Hannah sees things that I have never seen. She appreciates the color of a red rose. She takes the time to smell it's sweet fragrance. She will stop and watch the sunset and notice the unique color it will paint the sky. She hears the birds singing and the water fall flowing. She understands the peacefulness of a star filled sky. She touches everyone with her affection and contagious laughter. I need to appreciate and love more like Hannah.

Bowen has taught me to ask questions. Don't accept the answer if you think it could be wrong. Seek, ponder and find the answers deep within your heart. Just because it is logical does not mean it is correct. He has reminded me that there may be more than ONE right answer and that learning never ends. He loves to learn and he never FORGETS! He has a sharp mind and loves to develop it. He reads, he asks, he ponders and he seeks. He seeks for truth and widsom. He will not accept things unless he feels them to be right, deep inside his heart. He loves and he learns and he smiles! I need to seek wisdom and truth like Bowen.

I am grateful to be a mom and for the moms in my life. I love my mother, my mother-in-law. I love my sister who is a great mother and my sisters-in-law. I love my grandmothers and my friends' mothers and my friends who are mothers. My life has been blessed because of you. I love those who "mother" and love and care for my children!

Happy Anniversary to my "Love Muffin!" We were married on Friday, April 28, 1989! 20 years ago...TODAY! Wow! We have grown alot! I love my hubby! So, I have done what I do best, made a list (and not a "to-do" list) of what has made me so happy for the last 20 years.
